The Wall Street Journal is taking notice of the Smart Manufacturing Leadership Coalition‘s efforts to make data more open.
In the paper’s CIO Journal, Joel Schectman reported on the $7.8 million Department of Energy contract that will help build a tool to let factories analyze data from all brands of sensors to become more energy efficient.
The article quotes Gartner analyst Stephen Stokes, who explains that the project is part of ongoing efforts to make factory data available on a larger scale and to more businesses. The more data that can be analyzed, he noted, the more waste can be identified and eliminated.
And this 18-month project is just the first phase, according to Rockwell Automation’s John Bernaden.
