Dr. Bartles has a proven track record in manufacturing, primarily in defense related product fields, working for Fairchild Republic Company, followed by General Defense, Olin Corporation, Primex Technologies, and eventually General Dynamics through subsequent acquisitions. He has served in both domestic and international capacities, with emphasis on manufacturing facility startups, plant management, research and development, and program execution.
Dr. Bartles was Vice Chair of the Manufacturing Division of the National Defense Industrial Association and International Director of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He is a member of the Industry Advisory Board of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and is a Board member of the Army Research and Development Advisory Committee as well as a member of the National Council for Advanced Manufacturing. He served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining. Dr. Bartles is also a Smart Manufacturing Leadership Coalition (SMLC) board member.
Dr. Bartles previously served as Chairman of the American League of Export Security Assistance and recently completed a three year term on the Department of Commerce’s Manufacturing Council. He recently served on President Obama’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board’s Education and Training Subcommittee and served over ten years on the US State Department’s Defense Trade Advisory Group. Dr. Bartles also served on the Executive Board of the Defense Industry Offsets Association. He is a member of the Association of the United States Army, the National Defense Industrial Association, the Tampa Bay Area Foreign Relations Committee, the Academy of Management, the Academy of International Business, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
Dr. Bartles graduated from Shepherd College with a BS in Business Administration. He holds a Master’s degree in International Business from Tampa College, an MBA from Shippensburg University, and a Doctorate in Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University.
